Al Jazeera LIVE: Leverage has shifted in the EU’s favour, if it faces Trump again.
Al Jazeera LIVE, 24 February 2026
The coming days will show whether European leaders are serious about matching last month' rhetoric with action and build a more self-confident European posture.
Any negotiation today would happen in a very different reality. Greenland happened. The National Security Strategy was published. The EU was sidelined on Ukraine. The EU needs to use the forthcoming renegotiation to move from humiliation to saving grace.
The question is no longer whether Europe has leverage.
It is whether the EU is willing to use its strength to defend its interests and trim down the concessions to the US; the 750bn in LNG purchases, the 40bn off-take agreement for chips, the increase in purchasing for military equipment. All of which will strengthen the US ability to force the EU into alignment with the dangerous dominance agenda Marco Rubio has sketched out in Munich.
Thanks to Al Jazeera Media Network to share my thoughts on the opportunities for Europe in response to the SCOTUS ruling.
